Social work
students in Romania
Sighisoara, Romania
January Term
2008
For the Practicum in
Romania, students traveled to Sighisoara, Romania, where they learned
about the culture of Romania by living with local host families and
performing social work duties. This experience included “hands-on”
activities where students in social work education learned to serve in a
cross-cultural context with a reflection upon service. A wide range of
opportunities exist within Veritas, a multi-faceted non-profit
organization that has grown out of a Romanian Studies Program. Students
worked with disadvantaged children, the elderly, the disabled, community
development and teaching. Students also had the opportunity to deepen
their Christian faith through church related social work where they
worked alongside short-term and seasoned missionaries and were a part of
a young and growing church that began with student friendships.
