GETTING STARTED
- Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty is still a premier source of current news and analysis on Eastern Europe. Though they no longer have a Romanian service, RFE/RL's Moldova Service is very active. There are additional materials available on their Romanian-language page.
- The ubiquitous GOOGLE has 215 million listings for Romania, probably all pretty much of equal value. This count is down from 319 million in 2006; is this a trend? Check back next year.
- GOOGLE for Moldova has only 89.4 million listings (down from 178 million in 2006), but, hey, who's really counting?
- YAHOO's Romanian Search Page provides an excellent starting point for matters Romanian.
- YAHOO's Moldovan Search Page provides a good starting point for (you guessed it) matters Moldovan.
- CIA FACT BOOK: Romania. Good basic information.
- CIA FACT BOOK on MOLDOVA. More of the same.
- WASHINGTON POST/Romania Information Site, includes links to POST and Associated Press stories on Romania. A good way to pick up on current news about Romania.
- WASHINGTON POST/Moldova Information Site, includes links to POST and Associated Press stories on Moldova. A good way to pick up on current news about Moldova.

WESTERN LIBRARY RESOURCES
- University of Illinois Slavic and East European Library, which includes links to their newspaper list and archives list as well as to the highly useful Slavic Reference Service. There are two very useful bibliographical links on this site, one covering Romanian Historical Bibliographical Resources, and a second surveying General Romanian Bibliographical Resources.
- The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world and most bibliographical references can be verified through its catalogue. The European Reading Room provides bibliographical assistance by eMail and also has bibliographical guides to Romanian Collections at LC and Moldovan Collections at LC, edited by ace librarian Grant Harris. LC also has internet links pages for Romania and Moldova. You can access two book length country studies online for Romania, which is excellent for the Communist regime (since it was published virtually simultaneouslly with its collapse), but needs to be replaced for post-1989 Romania; and for Moldova, which is more up to date, having been published in 1995. Lastly, you can download pdf "Country Profiles" of Romania and Moldova here; these are updated on a fairly regular basis.
- University of Pittsburgh's Russian and East European Collection houses the World Wide Web Virtual Library for Russian and East European Studies.
