ACADEMIC

FINAL DAY TO ADD A CLASS for fall semester is Tuesday, September 9.  You must submit a completed change of registration form to the Registrar's office (complete with all required signatures) no later than 5:00 PM on September 9 if you wish to add a class for this semester. 

FINAL DAY TO REQUEST S/U GRADING for a fall semester course is Tuesday, September 16.  S/U grading may be requested only for elective courses that will not count in your major or core requirements.

WAIT!  There is another London option for the May of ’04 as well, with a historical flavor of mathematics.  See the same highlights and visit the same places, but with an emphasis on the rich mathematical heritage of England, home of Isaac Newton.  No prerequisite.  If interested, contact Dr. Wetherbee at X-4206 or through the email.  (Both groups will travel together and share many experiences).

ADMINISTRATIVE

The LEARNING CENTER has moved! Check out our new location in room 102 of Loew-Brenn Hall. You may still sign up for a CLEP or DANTES exam, get study information for the TSWE, or schedule the Accuplacer in the Learning Center. 

HEALTH  INSURANCE PLAN: Please make sure that if you do NOT want to be on the Huntington College's health insurance plan that your insurance charge has been deducted.  NO changes will be made after September 5, 2003.

TUTORING:  Upperclassmen who are excellent students are being recruited for employment as peer tutors for the Learning Center this fall.  Especially needed are students in the following majors: accounting, business, Bible and religion, biology, history, English, probability and statistics, physics, psychology and sociology.  Stop by the Learning Center to pick up an application.  If you believe you will need a tutor this fall, come by the Learning Center to complete a Tutor Request form to start the process.  There is no charge for tutoring, so get a head start on the academic challenges of the semester and take advantage of this valuable service!

Students with Disabilities: In compliance with section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Huntington University will make reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.  To be eligible for accommodations, a student must have a learning, psychological, orthopedic, or sensory disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, and provide documentation of the disability.  Kris Chafin, the director of the Learning Center, is the coordinator of services for students with disabilities at HC.  Call  (X4290) or email (kchafin@huntington.edu) Kris to get more information or request accommodations.

ATTENTION:  EDUCATION STUDENTS  - There will be a mandatory informational meeting for those students planning to student teach next school year, 2004-2005.  Come to the HDC Banquet Room on Wednesday, October 1 and attend one of two sessions at 11:30 or 12:15.  You will be hearing about how to apply for student teaching.   The same information will be presented at each session.  You must attend this meeting even if you are not admitted to the Education program.   Please contact Mrs. Massengill in the Education office if you cannot attend either session.

ATTENTION: Education Students Taking the J-term Practicum (EDJ395):  You will be receiving a survey from Mrs. Massengill concerning the J-term Practicum, 2004.  Please respond to this survey right away and return it via campus mail by Friday, Oct. 3.  If you are planning to take the J-term but did not get a survey, contact Mrs. Massengill at Ext.4188 as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Closed Tuesday & Thursday 10:00-11:00 a.m. for Chapel.  You will need your new student ID to check out any materials.  Starting Wednesday, September 4, AFTER HOURS STUDY ROOM HOURS ARE: SUNDAY-THURSDAY   4:30 p.m. until following 4:30 a.m. and FRIDAY – SATURDAY not open from the outside.

You can access your student information via the Web!  If you have financial clearance for fall semester, you can view your fall registration (and print a copy if you wish) your billing statement, your academic record and even use the GPA Estimator to predict your grade point average at the end of this semester.  If you have financial clearance, you do not need to stop by the Business Office when you arrive on campus unless you just want to be friendly. The website is http://myinfo.huntington.edu  Your user name is your student ID number (just the numbers without the "s" at the beginning that is needed when you access the campus network).  If you have never been on the site and changed your password, the last 5 digits of your social security number is your temporary password.  You should change your password the first time you access the system (by clicking on the Change PIN button at the top of the screen) to help keep your information private.  We hope that you will enjoy using the system!

HEY COMMUTER STUDENTS!  You should plan to participate fully in the orientation program [Kris Chafin] whether you are a freshman or a transfer student .  The expense of your meals [Kris Chafin], which are part of the orientation activities will be covered, so please make arrangements now to notify your employer that you will need to have August 31st –September  2nd off.  If you have questions, contact Kris Chafin  (260) 359-4290 [Kris Chafin] (or kchafin@huntington.edu) to discuss how you can best become oriented to the HC campus, become familiar with campus resources, get a copy of the student handbook, etc.

Reminder to all students: if you receive a package through US mail you will receive a pink slip in your campus mailbox.  Please bring that slip to the mail room to claim your package.  All students must present photo identification to receive your package.

Be sure that you are on the correct MEAL PLANNO changes will be made after September 5, 2003.

Student Senate Elections -- Petitions are available in the Student Development and Student Senate Offices (both located in the HUB) for the following positions:

Petitions are due on Monday, September 8, by 5:00 p.m.  Elections will be held by email from Tuesday., Sept. 9 until noon on Thursday, Sept. 11.  If you have questions, please contact Joanna Shenk at extension 3591.  If you do not have email access a paper ballot is available in the Student Development Office.

JOBS:

PARKING ATTENDANTS are needed.  Apply in the Student Development Office located in the HUB.  Work study will be given preference. 
 

Student athletic trainer to assist with readying student athletes for practice/games etc.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  Dependent of qualifications, duties consist of preparation for practice, taping, treating, gen. First aid, running supplies to practice, helping with rehabilitation and exercises for injured athletes, etc.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  No prior experience in athletic training necessary; just a willingness to work and learn. First Aid and CPR is necessary, but can be earned at the local Red Cross for a nominal fee.  
HOURS:
As needed basis, but could be up to 15-20

Take a Walk to the Park!  College Park Church welcomes back the Huntington University students.   We want you to know that we have two worship services to choose from and opportunity to be involved in Bible study and ministry.  Our services are at 8:30 a.m. (traditional) and 10:45 a.m. (contemporary).  Our College Student Bible Study meets at 9:45 a.m. in our new Family Life Center (FLC).  Come and join us as we worship our Lord, we would love to be your home church away from home!
