New this year –
a weekly mission’s lunch!  If you’re interested in missions and praying for the world, join a group of fellow students and Luke Fetters each Friday for lunch in the Dining Commons from 11:45 to 12:45.  Feel free to come late or leave early; go through the line or bring your own PB&J.  Periodically, representatives from mission organizations will join us.  Other times, we’ll watch and discuss short mission infovideos.  Each week, we’ll be praying about current news and concerns in the world of missions.  Look for us at one of the large tables in the main cafeteria or in the Forester Room.

ADMINISTRATIVE

The LEARNING CENTER has moved! Check out our new location in room 102 of Loew-Brenn Hall. You may still sign up for a CLEP or DANTES exam, get study information for the TSWE, or schedule the Accuplacer in the Learning Center.

TUTORING:  Upperclassmen who are excellent students are being recruited for employment as peer tutors for the Learning Center this fall.  Especially needed are students in the following majors: accounting, business, Bible and religion, biology, history, English, probability and statistics, physics, psychology and sociology.  Stop by the Learning Center to pick up an application.  If you believe you will need a tutor this fall, come by the Learning Center to complete a Tutor Request form to start the process.  There is no charge for tutoring, so get a head start on the academic challenges of the semester and take advantage of this valuable service!

Students with Disabilities: In compliance with section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Huntington University will make reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.  To be eligible for accommodations, a student must have a learning, psychological, orthopedic, or sensory disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, and provide documentation of the disability.  Kris Chafin, the director of the Learning Center, is the coordinator of services for students with disabilities at HC.  Call (X4290) or email (kchafin@huntington.edu) Kris to get more information or request accommodations.

Writing Center hours: Beginning this evening, September 8, the Writing Center will open. We will be adding more hours as we fill tutor positions. Watch for the signs around campus. You may drop in to the Writing Center (located in the Learning Center, room 102 in Loew-Brenn Hall) to have an English major assist you with your writing assignments. No appointment is needed. However, you must be present -- you cannot drop your paper off. If you are unable to come in during the regular hours, we will strive to set up an appointment at a time that would be convenient.
          Mondays          7 to 9 pm
Wednesdays     11 am to 1 pm

ATTENTION:  EDUCATION STUDENTS - There will be a mandatory informational meeting for those students planning to student teach next school year, 2004-2005.  Come to the HDC Banquet Room on Wednesday, October 1 and attend one of two sessions at 11:30 or 12:15.  You will be hearing about how to apply for student teaching.   The same information will be presented at each session.  You must attend this meeting even if you are not admitted to the Education program.   Please contact Mrs. Massengill in the Education office if you cannot attend either session.

ATTENTION: Education Students Taking the J-term Practicum (EDJ395):  You will be receiving a survey from Mrs. Massengill concerning the J-term Practicum, 2004.  Please respond to this survey right away and return it via campus mail by Friday, Oct. 3.  If you are planning to take the J-term but did not get a survey, contact Mrs. Massengill at Ext.4188 as soon as possible.  Thank you.

You can access your student information via the Web!  If you have financial clearance for fall semester, you can view your fall registration (and print a copy if you wish) your billing statement, your academic record and even use the GPA Estimator to predict your grade point average at the end of this semester.  The website is http://myinfo.huntington.edu.  Your user name is your student ID number (just the numbers without the "s" at the beginning that is needed when you access the campus network).  If you have never been on the site and changed your password, the last 5 digits of your social security number is your temporary password.  You should change your password the first time you access the system (by clicking on the Change PIN button at the top of the screen) to help keep your information private.  We hope that you will enjoy using the system!

HEALTH SERVICES NOTE:  If you have been contacted by the Health Services Dept. regarding health records, immunizations, etc., please respond to them right away.  Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to have all the correct information and immunizations completed, so that you will be able to continue to attend classes. The department is located in the lower level of Wright Hall, and office hours are 9:30am - 3:00pm.  You can reach Donna at ext. 4092 or Susie at ext. 4072.

Reminder to all students: if you receive a package through US mail you will receive a pink slip in your campus mailbox.  Please bring that slip to the mail room to claim your package.  All students must present photo identification to receive your package.
