Our all-campus Bible Study for the 2007-08 school year will be The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ, overseen by Dr Mark Fairchild of Huntington's Bible and Religion Department. Several different instructors will take on the task of presenting this in depth Bible study.  The study will be held on most Fridays at 11:00 AM in the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Writing Dylan: The Songs of a Lonesome Traveler:

Longaker Recital Hall @ 7:00 PM

Dr. Larry David Smith, associate professor of Communications Studies at Ball State University, will present a guest lecture on Bob Dylan on Tuesday, January 8, 7:00 PM in Longaker Hall (Merillat Building). Dr. Smith has written two books on Bob Dylan, Writing Dylan: The Songs of a Lonesome Traveler (Praeger, 2005) and Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and American Song (Praeger, 2002), as well as books on Pete Townsend, Elvis Costello, and Joni Mitchell.
All are welcomed to attend.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR FINANCIAL AID Remember to file your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by March 10, 2008. You can do this by going to the web site at www.fafsa.ed.gov after January 1st. We encourage you to print off the FAFSA On The Web Worksheet listed under step 1. This will help you to be prepared for the information requested in step 2. If you filed the paper FAFSA for 2007/2008, you will not receive a renewal application at your home address. If you filed on the web, you should receive an email notifying you to file online.  If you wish to file the paper FAFSA you will have to contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) at 1-800-433-3243 to have the forms mailed to you. YOU MUST FILE THE FAFSA TO RECEIVE ANY STATE AND/OR FEDERAL AID AND TO QUALIFY FOR A FEDERAL STAFFORD LOAN.

 

Attention January Graduates: If you have borrowed a Federal Stafford Loan or Federal Perkins Loan, you will need to do your online exit counseling. The Stafford Loan Exit Counseling is on our website at www.huntington.edu/finaid and the Perkins Loan Exit Counseling website is www.uasexit.com Thank You!


 

Meal Plans for Spring Semester

To review meal plan options click here.  Changes may be made by emailing mpasko@huntington.edu or downloading the form and submitting it to Margaret in the Student Development Office.  Questions? Contact Margaret Pasko at 359-4026.  All changes need to be made by Thursday, January 31, 2008.   No changes will be accepted after January 31.

 

J-term meals begin on January 7, 2008 at breakfast until Sunday, January 27 dinner. J-term Break is January 24-27 and students may eat during this time w/o forfeiting the $100 Flex bonus.  The Spring semester meal plans begin Monday at breakfast on January 28, 2008.

 

Reminder: Meal plans A, B, C, D, and E are A plans during J-term.  If you don't eat over J-term during the above dates $100 will be credited to your Flex dollars.  Those on the E meal plan are not included in the $100 Flex credit option.

DC hours - Close after lunch on Thursday, December 13, 2007. Reopens for breakfast on January 7, 2008.

Norm’s hours - Closes at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 13, 2007 and reopens on Monday, January 28, 2008.

RA Applications

RA applications are due by Wednesday, January 16.  You may download the form (RA application), stop by the Student Development office and pick one up, or talk to your Resident Director.  Timelines for interviews and applications are on the forms. 


Calling all folksingers, rockers, gospel singers, and anyone else interested in performing a song: Dr. Heller is trying to put together an open mic, coffee shop type of show of everyone interested in performing a Bob Dylan song. The likely date of the show would be Friday or Saturday, the 18th or 19th.  Contact Dr. Heller at x4219 or by email at jheller@huntington.edu. You may find the music and lyrics for many Dylan songs in The Definitive Dylan Songbook on Heller’s reserve in the library. You do not have to be enrolled in Dr. Heller’s J-term course to participate.

HU Intramurals

Students,
Coed Intramural Soccer and wallyball along with 2nd session men’s basketball will be cranking the second week of J-term. Be sure to take the time to sign yourself up for one, if not all three leagues before you head home for 3 weeks of mom and dad’s cooking. Soccer and basketball will again have a draft once we return from break, while students interested in wallyball can create their own rosters.

 

On a side note:  1st session basketball finals will be played this Thursday in the main gym…..women at 8:00 PM and men at 9:00 PM. Come and cheer on your classmates!

Student Senate Impact Initiative Scholarship

Scholarship applications are not due until Monday, February 4.

Applications for the Impact Initiative.  Hard copies will be available in the files outside the Senate office door.  You may also print off the application by going to Senate's webpage (www.huntington.edu/senate) and clicking on the "Good Stuff" tab. Scholarship applications are not due until Monday, February 4.

Applicants must be current sophomores.  The scholarship is awarded to one student and totals $2,000 ($1,000 per junior and senior year).  Any questions, please e-mail Student Senate's Executive Board at senate@huntington.edu.


Spring Break Trip to Monessen, PA

Come check out an opportunity to travel to an area of the country that is in desperate need, to do service work, and to have discussions about community development, poverty, and what it all means for us as students.
