Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation

We will have our annual MLK Convocation on Monday, January 19 from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm in Zurcher Auditorium in the Merillat Centre for the Arts.  Our speaker will be Dr. Quinton Dixie who is an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy department at IPFW and has interests in African-American religious history, religion and labor, hip-hop and spirituality, religion and the Civil Rights Movement.  We will have special music preformed by the student group Cai and this event is open to the public.

Inauguration Day Prayer Service

We will have an inauguration day prayer service for our nation and President Barack Obama on Tuesday, January 20 from 4:00 pm – 4:30 pm in the Longaker Recital Hall in the Merillat Centre for the Arts.  This event is not a celebration of one political party or another but simply a response to our Biblical expectation of praying for our national leaders.  Brief comments will also be shared about the historicity of the recent election.  If participants choose to do so, they can sign a large copy of the written prayer which will be mailed to President Obama’s office in DC along with a short letter of explanation.  The prayer is being written by Bob Henry (Campus Ministries) and myself using sections of Scripture, the Book of Common Prayer and denominational prayer collection resources.

If you would like to read a section of the prayer or be a part of the MLK convocation, please let me know.

We will have the inauguration events on the television in the HUB all day for those of you interested in watching.
