In 2005, Congress passed legislation mandating educational
institutions receiving federal funds to hold an educational program
relating to the United States Constitution on Sept 17 each year.
This day commemorates the September 17, 1787, signing of the
Constitution.
Constitution Day observance
On Wednesday, September 17 at 11:00 AM in Zurcher Auditorium,
The Constitution Day observance will shed light on how the Electoral
College selects our President. Those in attendance will participate
in a simulation of the Electoral College, voting by delegation and
compiling votes on several issues to be presented at the event.
Participants will also vote individually, so that results of both
popular vote and Electoral College can be usefully compared.
Questions about the Electoral College will be fielded at the end of
the simulation, and we’ll also discuss recent Electoral College
outcomes and prospects for the Election of 2008. Everyone in the
campus community is invited to attend and participate. Elective Chapel
credit will be given.
