Forester Lecture Series

 “Making Friends with Darwin”
Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 MCA

Karl Giberson, Professor of Physics at Eastern Nazarene College, will deliver the first Forester Lecture Series lecture of the fall semester.  His presentation is designated the third annual “Examined Christian Life Lecture,” and details his personal experience in wrestling with the faith implications of Darwinism.  The lecture is Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the MCA.  Karl Giberson’s book, Saving Darwin: How to be a Christian and Believe in Evolution (HarperOne, 2009) is available on loan at RichLyn Library.

Theology Reading Group

This is an informal group, a time to collectively wrestle with readings related to theology, culture, and the Christian life. All are certainly welcome to join as we read this fall Telford Work’s book on the Lord’s Prayer, Ain’t Too Proud to Beg: Living Through the Lord’s Prayer (Eerdmans, 2007). Work is an exciting young theologian and engaging writer to boot. As we read this book and pray through the Lord’s Prayer ourselves, I have no doubt you will be challenged and heartened in equal measure. Chapel credit will be awarded for participation and you must purchase the book (copies can be had through Amazon for less than $4). We will collectively choose a meeting time at an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 9, 4:30 PM at Loew-Brenn 220. Please direct questions to me at keilers@huntington.edu.

Shakespeare Behind Bars Prison Trip
The third annual trip to the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in Kentucky will occur on Tuesday, October 27. This trip gives participants a chance to interact with the inmates of a medium security prison as they rehearse a Shakespeare play, discuss it with a professor, and answer questions from students. Students may be asked to participate with the inmates in a few activities. Except for the cost of lunch, the trip is free. Participants in the trip must complete a criminal background check, watch the movie documentary about Shakespeare Behind Bars, and read the play the inmates will be working on, Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale. It would be helpful to have more male students participating. Please contact Dr. Jack Heller for more information, jheller@huntington.edu.
