“Nonlinear Optics as a Method for Probing Order in Biological Systems”

Ms. Victoria Hall, a 2005 Huntington University alumna, will give a presentation titled “Nonlinear Optics as a Method for Probing Order in Biological Systems” at 4 PM on Friday, October 2 in Hiner Hall of the Science Hall, as part of the Gerald D. Smith Lecture Series in the Natural and Mathematical Sciences.  Ms. Hall is a Ph.D. candidate in the Chemistry Department at Purdue University and will also discuss life as a graduate student in the sciences. The presentation is free and open to the public.  Elective chapel credit will be given for students attending the entire presentation.  Ms. Hall will be available for dinner with students at the DC afterwards.

Israel - Holy Land J-Term Trip

The Bible & Religion Department will take students to Israel and Jordan for the coming 2010 January Term class.  The trip will feature visits to numerous important Old Testament & New Testament sites, including Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Caesarea, Nazareth, Capernaum, a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, Masada and the Dead Sea, as well as Jordanian sites such as Jerash and Petra.  If you are interested in joining this group, contact Prof. Fairchild at extension 4235.

Open to all members of the Huntington community, La Mesa Española (The Spanish Table) provides an, opportunity to share with others who speak Spanish, or are learning to speak Spanish. Come talk about God, the world, the weather, or whatever is on your mind. This is an unstructured, hour during which you are encouraged to, communicate in a relaxed, enjoyable setting. Harlem Ambassadors

On Wednesday Oct 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Huntington North High School gym there will be a basketball game between the Harlem Ambassadors and a group of local players.  This event is sponsored by the Lions Club of Huntington.  The intent is a cheap and entertaining event for the entire family.  Tickets are $3 in advance or $4 at the door.  If you want tickets, contact Dr. Mike Rowley (260) 359-4277.

Registrations for the second annual LIVE UNITED Team Mini-Triathlon in support of the 2009 Huntington County United Way Campaign are now underway.  It is a lot of fun and is a three-person team of a cyclist, runner and swimmer.  The distances are abbreviated and listed on the registration form.   This is a non-competitive event (although some people will be there who compete at everything) and is designed to promote a healthy, active lifestyle.   Come join the fun. Cook

Hours: 3:00-5:00 Monday through Friday

Description: The cook's responsibility includes cooking, cleaning, and managing the Kid's Cafe area during supper time. 

 

2 Andrews Elementary Tutors

Hours: 3:00-5:00, Tuesdays and Thursdays

Description: The Tutors responsibilities include running the educational program Mitch's Kids at Andrews Elementary school, assisting students with homework, and creating and implementing fun educational activities. 

 

Gym Assistant

Hours: 3:00-5:30, Monday through Thursday

Description: The Gym Assistants responsibilities include running gym activities for club members of all ages, and assisting the Middle School program by running a dodgeball league.

 

Americorp Recovery Act Position

Hours: 5:30-7:30, Monday through Friday

Description: Responsibilities include developing and strengthening the Volunteer programs at the Boys and Girls Club.  This individual will work primarily with the Boys and Girls Club teenagers and will assist in the leadership programs Torch and Keystone.

Would you like to share the love of Christ with children in need?

The Eastside Neighborhood Outreach welcomes students who want to reach out with the love of Christ to children in Huntington.  You will meet and befriend children Tuesdays 4:30 – 6 p.m. beginning Sept 8 and play games with them during Games in the Park each Saturday 10 a.m. – 12, beginning Sept 12.  Interested children also attend Bible classes on Tuesdays from 7 – 8:30 and volunteer teachers are welcome.  Volunteers who are only able to help occasionally are welcome, but those who can establish long term relationships with the children are preferred.  Contact Dr. Tom Bergler x4285.

 

“Discovering Anglican Christianity” will be taught by Rev. Rick Leone, Tuesdays 7 – 8:30 PM, Church of Our Glorious King 404 Grayston Ave, Huntington.  All are welcome.  The class will introduce students to what Anglican Christians believe.  For more information contact Rev.
