Existing Computers – Minimum Recommendations

Note: The general computer labs are equipped with all Windows computers. No Macs are available in these labs.

Operating System

Windows:  Windows XP Professional or Home with Service Pack 2 or Windows 2000Older versions of Windows such as Windows 98, 98SE, and ME will have difficulty being part of the campus network.  Click here for the HU Student Software Program where Windows Vista Business upgrade is available.  Note the minimum system requirement for Windows Vista Business is 1GB memory, a graphics card with 128MB memory, and a 40GB hard drive.

Virus Protection

Antivirus software is a required and should be updated diligently with the latest virus definitions.

Recommendations:
Mac: Virex or Norton AntiVirus*
Win: McAfee VirusScan or Norton AntiVirus*  

*University will provide a license for Norton Anti-virus for each student.

Anti-spyware software should be installed. Free and purchasable verions of Adaware by Lavasoft and Spybot Search & Destroy by PepiMK Software are good solutions.
