Feb. 23-24, 2007,
more than 65 people attended the Christians in Theatre Arts Northern
Regional Conference and Festival at Huntington University. An
additional 15 people attended some of the performances. In all,
approximately 80 people were on campus for Friday and Saturday.
Highlights of the
CITA conference and festival included
- 18 workshops in
the areas of acting, directing, design, playwrighting, touring, and
the spiritual life of the artist
- A late-night
improv jam
- The first-ever
7-Minute Bathrobe Drama Festival: Two teams created dramas with only
two rules – they had to last less than seven minutes, and they had
to contain a bathrobe.
“We’re hoping to
build on this in future conferences and festivals,” said Mike
Burnett, assistant professor of theatre arts.

Professor Jeff Berst from
Southern Indiana University gave the Huntington College Theatre Company's
performance of Pippin an overwhelmingly positive response from the
Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF). Special notice
was given to the costume design (Professor Ella Burnett), lighting design
(Professor Mike Burnett), and stage management (Kathy Chilcoat). Chilcoat
was also nominated for a special Certificate of Merit. Pippin was
the first Huntington College Theatre Company production to be entered into
the KC/ACTF. I, Faustus will also be entered next spring. By
entering KC/ACTF, the theatre department opens its students to responses
from theatre professionals and gives them the opportunity to perform and
design on the regional and national level.

Amber Patrick and Dan Olson were nominated to advance to the Kennedy
Center/American College Theatre Festival Region III Irene Ryan acting
competition. Their nomination came from their roles in last week's
performances of Pippin. They will compete in January. If selected,
they will then advance to the Kennedy Center to perform in April.

Eight Huntington College

Kylie Edmonds, Amber Patrick and Becca Rodgers. Dan Olson and Nikki Barger
were selected to advance to the SETC acting auditions with Josh Christenson
receiving an alternate position.
