Special Features of our Theatre Program
The Merillat Centre for the Arts
provides state-of-the-art facilities for student actors and technicians. In
addition to the 700-seat mainstage theatre, the Merillat Centre houses a
flexible seating studio theatre, an acting studio, a well equipped
scene-shop, a costume shop and more.
The theatre season consists of both mainstage
and studio productions, children’s shows, musicals, workshop production and
student-directed one-acts.

The Theatre Department sponsors summer stock productions and traveling
shows, such as
Cotton
Patch Gospel
and
Live Bait. These talented student
troupes use the powerful medium of theatre to communicate the life-changing
Gospel of Jesus Christ. During the school year, theatre students who are
interested in ministry have opportunities to develop sketches for chapels
and other Christian service events.

The theatre arts program gives students experience in the full range of
theatre arts including stage craft (scenic design, lighting, costuming),
acting, and directing. Click this photo, taken during rehearsal for
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, to see some of the
results. Other recent productions have included Pirates of Penzance,
Oklahoma!, The Life of Galileo, The Miser, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo
and Juliet, As You Like It, Antigone, Our Town, Tartuffe, A
Doll's House, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Diary of Anne Frank, Fiddler
on the Roof, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Godspell and many more.

Huntington students may also participate in several
off-campus learning opportunities. Of
particular interest to theatre students are the programs offered by the
Los
Angeles Film Studies Center in cooperation with
the
Coalition for
Christian Colleges and Universities.
