The Christian Conservator

July 15, 1885

Address to the Church

To all who in our beloved Zion adhere to our Confession of Faith and Constitution, we wish to say through this circular humbly, yet firmly, stand by your principles. Be brave. Be true. Let nothing be done through strife or unholy ambition but stand for the church whose confession of faith and constitution bears the seal of the blessed Holy Spirit.

Be not hasty in conclusions as to what course of action should be pursued. The Constitution and Confession of Faith is the standard around which United Brethren in all our borders must rally.

The extraordinary and unconstitutional methods of the late General conference as set forth in this circular must be unitedly and prudently resisted, not by disintegration, nor by rebellion, but by maintaining the confession of faith and the constitution as it now is. As representatives of a constituency true to the time-honored principles of the United Brethren in Christ, we feel that we can do nothing less than to enter our protest against the revolutionary measures adopted by this conference and rest our cause, which we believe to be the cause of truth and righteousness with the church. Praying that it may be saved from disintegration or schism, and that it may be preserved in the purity and power of the Gospel of Christ.
