First published in December of 1834 at Circleville, Ohio it was edited by Rev. William Rhinehart, a noted reformer within the United Brethren denomination. After 1889 the Religious Telescope was published by the New Constitution branch of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. It was published continuously until 1947 when the New Constitution United Brethren merged with the Evangelical Church. The merger of the two denominations also meant  the merger of their two main periodicals. The Religous Telescope merged with the Evangelical Messenger to become Telescope-Messenger.
The Religous Telescope Digitization Project is an ongoing work that digitizes sections of the Religious Telescope need for study by genealogists and researchers. Sections and articles are digitized as needed. Each article is digitized seperately, while the obituraies are digitized per issue. Check the obituaries alphabetical index to see which issues have been already digitized. If you do not see the issue you need, contact the Historical Center to request that it be added to the list. Please allow one to two weeks for the Historical Center to process your request.
