Rev. Daniel Peifer
REV. DANIEL PEIFER was born in Germany, Oct. 21st, 1785. He came to this
country when about nineteen years of age. He was a member of the German
Reformed Church, and came with a good recommendation from his pastor, that
he was a member in good standing in the above-named church, and could be
taken into the Christian church; but it appears he had no experimental
religion. Not long afterward, he experienced the religion of Christ, and
joined the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, of which he remained a
consistent member until called up higher. Bro. Peifer was characterized by
firmness in his religious principles, and loyalty to the Church and country.
He was highly esteemed at a genuine Christian. He was licensed to preach the
gospel of Christ in 1818, at a conference held in Lancaster County, Pa.,
presided over by Bishop Newcomer. He was a man of good, sound Bible
doctrine, and was a preacher by his example as well as by his words. He died
at his residence, near Mt. Joy, Lancaster Co., Pa,, Sept. 20th, 1868, aged
82 years and 11 months.

Samuel Kempher
SAMUEL KEMPHER died Aug. 22d, 1868, aged 23 years, 4 months, and 1 day. The
subject of this notice was a faithful soldier in the Union army, fighting
the battles of our country, participating in the hardships and sufferings
that are incident to a soldier's life, and, while in the line of duty and
the necessary exposure, contracted the disease which followed him, and,
defying medical skill, finally brought him down to death. He found his
strength failing, and immediately sought and found peace in believing in
Christ. He found Jesus very precious, and died triumphantly happy, and went
home shouting "Glory to God." May the good Lord be very kind to his
affectionate mother, brother, and sister, who yet linger here below, and
prepare them fully for the company of those above, and finally bring them to
enjoy the society of those gone before.
