Harry Allen Blackwell

   HARRY ALLEN BLACKWELL, oldest son of Henry and Carann Blackwell, died in Indianapolis, Indiana, September 24, 1889, aged 25 years, 2 months, and 26 days. He leaves a father, mother, one sister, and three brothers to mourn their loss. This young man was engaged as a policeman at the state fair, and during its progress he was laid away. He did not profess religion until near death. He prayed and trusted in Jesus at last. But oh! how dangerous to defer this all-important preparation.

Edna Lamdon

EDNA LAMDON, daughter of Frank and Jesse Lamdon, died in Indianapolis, Ind., September 22, 1889, aged 2 months and 22 days. The father died only a few days before. Surely the mother's cup of sorrow is full. "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy coming in the morning." The little one is forever beyond the possibility of being lost.

Aaron Betzer

AARON BETZER was born in Ross County, Ohio, and died in Cherokee Co., Kansas, September 16, 1889, aged 73 years, 11 months, and 13 days. He was an old settler here, coming to Kansas in 1866. He was highly esteemed in the community, both by the Church and by all who knew him. He became a Christian early in life, uniting with the Methodist Episcopal Church, but soon after became a member of the United Brethren Church, in which he remained faithful and devoted until the Lord called him home. He ever manifested a deep interest in the prosperity of Zion, and especially in the welfare of the minister, who always found a welcome at his home. His suffering was of short duration; yet he often expressed a desire to depart and be with Christ. He leaves a companion, six children, and a large number of grandchildren.

Christina Masters

CHRISTIANA MASTERS died September 3, 1889, aged 74 years, 6 months, and 22 days. She was converted and joined the United Brethren Church at the age of fifteen, and lived a Christian all her life. In early life she was always found at her place in the church; but during the last twenty years she was unable to attend on account of affliction. She will be remembered by many of our ministers as one who gave liberally of her means to the support of the Church. At her death she had one copy of every number of the TELESCOPE. She died in great faith. Almost her last words were, "I want to go home to Jesus." She leaves an aged companion.

Anna McCollum

ANNA McCOLLUM was born in North Carolina, and died near Camden, Jay Co., Indiana, September 9, 1889, aged 83 years, 8 months, and 21 days. She joined the United Brethren Church several years ago, and lived a consistent Christian life until death. She was noted for her kind manner and gentle disposition, always having a smile and a kind word for every one. She leaves two sons and two daughters to mourn their loss. Her husband and three children having preceded her.

Lenhart Holstein

LENHART HOLSTEIN was born in Hessen, Germany, and died near Fort Recovery, Ohio, September 26, 1889, aged 83 years, 5 months, and 26 days. He emigrated to America in 1835. He was converted and joined the Evangelical Association in 1840, and in 1870 he joined the United Brethren Church, of which he remained a member until death. He was a man of sterling integrity, great Christian courage, and as long an physical strength permitted, an ardent church-worker. During the last year of suffering, he frequently expressed the desire to depart and be with Christ, and with great delight often referred to his approaching end. He leaves a son and seven grandchildren to mourn his departure; but we mourn not as those who have no hope.

Sarah E. Shields

SARAH E. SHIELDS, wife of J. M. Shields, was born in Yelford County, North Carolina, and moved to Illinois in in 1887, and died in Weldon, Dewitt Co., Illinois, September 17, 1889, aged 44 years, 11 months, and 16 days. Sister Shields was happily saved by the power of Christ at Shiloh church, Central Illinois Conference, in a meeting held by Rev. J. M. Stevenson in the winter of 1887. She then joined the United Brethren Church at Shiloh, and lived a consistent Christian life to her death. A husband and one child are left to mourn their loss.

Elizabeth Moore

ELIZABETH MOORE died September 20, 1889, aged 74 years, 11 months, and 10 days. She was married to John Moore in the year 1831. Her husband died August 27, 1887. Ten children—three sons and seven daughters—were born to them, all of whom are living except two daughters. Twenty-six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren survive her. Her and her husband enjoyed a married life of fifty-six years, and death did not enter their family until the fifty-third year of their married life. She has been a consistent member of the United Brethren Church from her youth.

Martha Frances Chambers

MARTHA FRANCES CHAMBERS, of Hedges, Paulding County, Ohio, died August 29, 1889, aged 25 years, 9 months, and 27 days. She leaves a husband and two children. Thirteen days after the death of the wife and mother the youngest child, Bessie Lewella Chambers, aged 3 months and 4 days, also died. The husband and father, with the little daughter and sister, are left to mourn.

PHILIPP SHUPP died near Oceola, Ohio, September 19, 1889, aged 53 years, 4 months, and 29 days. He passed from earth in living faith in Jesus, and is at rest.

Lydia Belchner

LYDIA BELCHNER, wife of George L. Belchner, of North Baltimore, Maryland, died September 13, 1889, aged 51 years, 9 months, and 29 days. She embraced religion and joined the United Brethren Church about thirty-five years ago, of which she remained an esteemed member until death. She was a daughter of Father Williams, of Manchester, Md., who recently went over to his heavenly home, after many years of faithful toil in the United Brethren Church. Most of Sister Belchner's life-time was spent at Manchester, and her body, was sent there for burial. She was a sister of Mrs. Henry Steffey, from whose family a grown son and a married daughter have been removed. She leaves a bereaved husband, son, and a daughter to mourn. She bore her long and painful illness with astonishing patience, sustained by the religion of Christ, which afforded her victory in death. … J. L. Grimm.

Diantha Kariger

DIANTHA KARIGER was born in Allen County, Indiana, and died in Fort Wayne, Indiana, September 21, 1889, aged 43 years, 6 months, and 1 day. In 1866 she united with the Baptist Church. And from 1886 to the time of her death she was an honored member of the First United Brethren Church of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Although suddenly called away, it is to be hoped that she possessed a Christian hope. She leaves a husband, three children, and a father to mourn.

Lucy Ann Boner

LUCY ANN BONER, wife of Absalom Boner, died near Middletown, Ohio, August 5, 1889, aged 58 years, 8 months, and 26 days. She had been a Christian and a member of the United Brethren Church upward of thirty years. She died as she lived—believing and trusting in Christ. She leaves a husband, one daughter, and many relatives sad on account of her death.

LUCY GARDNER died August 15, 1889, aged 84 years, 3 months, and 14 days. She was a quiet Christian, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and died in the hope of immortal life. She was a widow about fifty years. "Thou shall come to thy grave in a full ripe age as a shock of corn cometh in his season."

Mary E. Cullison

MARY E. CULLISON died near Trenton, Md., September 13, 1889, aged 28 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Sister Cullison was converted in girlhood, and lived a grand Christian life till the end came. She was much afflicted during the last year, and bore it all with patience, simply waiting for the coming of her Lord. A mother and sister had gone before her. A father and five brothers and sisters, and a large circle of friends mourn her loss, and extend sympathy to the bereaved ones.

WILLIAM PRESTON BORING died near Hampstead, Maryland, aged 7 years, 10 months, and 19 days. A life of continuous affliction was hid; but now he is with Him who said, "Suffer little children to come unto me."

Clara S. Snyder

CLARA S. SNYDER, daughter of James W. H. and Amanda Snyder, died near Copley Center, Ohio, September 24, 1889, aged 18 years and 73 days. In her late sickness she turned to the Lord, and he had mercy upon her. Let the parents and friends sorrow no longer. Clara, we trust, has gone to be with her Savior forever.

Mrs. Newton Wilson

MRS. NEWTON WILSON died near Grandatown, Ill., Sept. 22, 1889, aged 50 years and 29 days. She was converted in 1875, and joined the Free Methodist Church. She lived an exemplary Christian life up to her death, and was fully ready "to depart and be with Christ." She experienced the blessing of perfect love in our meetings last winter, and went up to the city of God "washed in the blood of the Lamb." A husband, many kindred, friends, and the whole community mourn her departure.

WILLARD ROSCO BAGS, infant son of J. S. and Viola J. Bags, died September 22, 1889, aged 1 year and 11 months. The suffering-time has gone by, and he rests sweetly in the better world.

MARY A. REYNOLDS died at her home near Lewis Center, Ohio, aged 58 years. She was a great sufferer and a good Christian, patiently waiting the coming of the Lord. She was a loving mother, wife, and neighbor, highly esteemed by all. Her funeral took place September 2, 1889.

Sarah Turlett Guthrie

SARAH TURLETT GUTHRIE was born in Pennsylvania and died August 19, 1889, aged 56 years, 10 months, and 8 days. In 1844, while the writer was holding a meeting near by them, she and her husband were converted and received into the Church. They were the first United Brethren members in that community. Sister Guthrie maintained her hold on Christ till the end. She was confined to her room about nineteen months. She bore her affliction with the greatest of patience, and finally died triumphant and went home to rest.

NANCY A. SEARLS died in Coalton, Ohio, August 26, 1889, aged 59 years, 6 months, and 19 days. She had been a member of the United Brethren Church nineteen years.

MARY ZELLAR died very suddenly at her home in Dayton, Ohio, September 18, 1889, aged 20 years. For the past year and a half she has been a member of the Oak Street United Brethren Church. She leaves a husband and other near friends who deeply mourn her loss.
