Practical Experience

“If you don’t use it; you lose it.” That’s a very old saying. It is especially true in any area that is related to the arts. Since the arts and music in particular are closely linked with worship leadership, we want to assist you in finding places to use your skills and experiment with new ideas.

The university community provides some of the opportunities that may benefit you. Joyful Noise, Huntington’s own worship band regularly leads worship in chapel. Preeminence is another worship ensemble that you may participate in and regularly leads worship in churches on tour and in the region. The Worship Leadership department is developing opportunities for monthly events on campus where students can experiment with new concepts in worship, planning, and leading.

The city of Huntington and the surrounding area have several churches, both large and small, that are eager to have your assistance in worship planning and leadership. Some of these churches are very open to experimentation and change in their worship. Many are led by pastors that are from the university community. They are eager to see you grow and succeed. In addition, you won’t be “thrown to the wolves alone”; we’ll be right there with you offering assistance and guidance, mentoring you in ministry.

Most of these are volunteer positions. But the experience you will gain in a supportive environment will be invaluable in your development journey. Along with that, you will be making a positive contribution to the Kingdom of God!
