October 16, 2013: ANNUAL FALL INDUCTION
The Chapter held its annual induction on Wednesday, October 16. 20 new members were added to our chapter. The new members were again introduced by their academic advisors. We were once again impressed with the level of curricular (expected) and cocurricular activities that Alpha Chi students participate in. Our new President Dr. Sherilyn Emberton addressed the inductees. For more information and pictures, see the HU news release.
October, 22, 2013: AX GRADUATE SCHOOL FORUM
The annual Alpha Chi Graduate School Forum was held with Ms. Martha Smith presenting general information on graduate schools and the GRE, followed by a panel composed of Dr. Tanner Babb (Psychology Department), Dr. John Noble (Bible and Religion Department), and HU graduate and now lawyer, Mr. Adrian Halverstadt.
SPRING 2014: SCHOLARSHIP/FELLOWSHIP Competition
The Indiana Beta chapter plans to nominate two students again this year for National Alpha Chi Scholarships and several for the Region V scholarships. Dr. Eilers is chair of the scholarship committee. Students wanting to try for National awards will need to let him know by December. Those wanting to do Regional awards need to sign up by February 2014. Regional competitors must attend the St. Louis convention.
J-TERM 2014: ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A COLLEGE STUDENT?
The annual Faculty v. Student quiz bowl is planned for this January. Watch for details.
The NATIONAL AX SERVICE PROJECT is the Bawa Health Initiative to bring clean water to Bawa, Cameroon, West Africa. We will need a group to coordinate our fundraising efforts here. Ms. Stetzel and Mrs. Thomason might be interested; how about anyone else? Contact Mrs. Michelson in the Library. May 2014: Forester Night. 2014 Graduating Alpha Chi seniors will be recognized and presented with their certificates and AX medallions. The Outstanding Scholar Award will be presented.
