Lion the witch and the wardrobe

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Aslan has been waiting for two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve for many years. The prophecy soon will be fulfilled as the Huntington University Theatre Company opens its fall season with C.S. Lewis’ “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” on Sept 26.

The exciting drama features chases, duels and escapes as the children try to save the magical land of Narnia from the clutches of the evil White Witch.

Let your imagination wander as memorable characters bring this tale to life. Follow Lucy (Maggie Gilliam) and her siblings, Edmund (Kyle Lindsey), Susan (Lauren Sowers) and Peter (Josh Cookingham), as they enter the mystical land of Narnia. Together, they will try to fulfill the age-old prophecy and battle to defeat the White Witch (Kenna Belt) with Aslan (Stephen Planalp) by their side.

Directed by HU’s Jay Duffer, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” will debut in the Studio Theater of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington University from Sept. 26-28. Performances begin at 7 p.m. with a special 2 p.m. matinee performance on Sept. 28. Two performances also will be offered at 1:30 and 4 p.m. Oct. 5 for Homecoming & Family Weekend.

"Our play is a fairly faithful adaptation from C.S. Lewis' beloved novel. The story historically serves as a wonderful allegory of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, and the great sacrifice of love he has for all humankind,” Duffer said. “I know that children and adults alike will love seeing this vibrant and entertaining production, whether they are devout fans of the book or it’s their first time seeing these characters spring to life.”

For reservations, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at 260-359-4261 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Tickets are sold at the door before every performance. Tickets are now on sale. Get your tickets today as seating is limited.

There are some intense fight scenes and a few scary moments, so please be advised if bringing younger children to the show.
