The HU women's basketball team
(14-9, 6-5) completed a sweep over the Lancers of Grace College (12-12, 3-8) on Thursday night with a 60-53 win at the Merillat Complex.
Despite Grace's hot hand behind the arc, the Foresters never trailed in the first twenty minutes. The Lancers knocked down six-of-eight treys in the first half but HU outscored them in the paint 16-4 and converted 11 Lancer turnovers into ten points to hold a slight 32-29 advantage at halftime. The Foresters' offensive firepower came from the pair of juniors, Kelsey Green and Sarah Miller, who teamed up to score 21 of the Foresters' 32 first half points.
The Lancers held a lead for the first five minutes of the second half but Amy Kramer's layup at the 15:24 mark erased Grace's lead for good. The Foresters went on to score the next seven points to push the lead to eight at 45-37 but reminiscent of the Lancers all season, they continued to stick around.
They cut the lead to two with just over seven minutes remaining but the play of the game came when Green stepped up to take her second charge of the night from Grace's leading scorer, Hayley Cashier, that sparked a 10-2 run to give HU some breathing room at 55-45 with three minutes remaining.
The Lancers put together one last run of six points to pull within four but they would get no closer as the Foresters made the big plays to keep Grace at arm's length.
Miller took game high honors with 19 points and six assists. Green finished with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Cashier led the Lancers with 11 points and eight rebounds. Kate Ball chipped in ten points. Box Score
