Up against two of the top teams in the WHAC, the Forester men’s soccer
team dropped back-to-back games at the University of Saint Francis Invitational. Against Cornerstone University on Friday afternoon, Nic Tolsma was a one-man wrecking crew as he recorded a hat trick on the day, scoring all three of the Golden Eagles’ goals to give Cornerstone the 3-0 win. The Golden Eagles outshot the Foresters 15-6. Drew Mattingly went the distance in goal to finish with eight saves.
On Saturday, the Foresters were downed 4-0 by Aquinas College, the defending WHAC champs and preseason WHAC favorite. Taking control of the match from kick-off, Aquinas wasted no time getting on the board. Jeovani Pantoja, 2009 WHAC offensive player of the year, scored the Saints’ first goal in the 13th minute of play. They added a second goal just eight minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Saints found the back of the net two more times in the first twelve minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach and cruise to the 4-0 victory.
The Foresters drop to 0-4 on the year. Next up for the Foresters is a home contest against Trinity Christian College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
