After dropping their first match at the Manchester College Tournament, the Foresters rallied to win their next three to finish 3-1 for the tournament.
In their first match Friday night, HU fell 26-30, 27-30, 30-24, 23-30 to host Manchester College. Brittney Smelser led the Foresters 14 kills and five aces. Alyssa Schroeder, the lone Forester to receive All-Tournament team honors, dished out 49 assists and added three blocks. Stephanie Stearns finished with 44 digs.
HU responded in their second match with a 30-25, 30-12, 30-25 win over Otterbien College. Smelser again led HU's attack with 13 kills. Kayley Cervenka had four blocks, Stearns had 25 digs and Schroeder chipped in 36 assists and four aces.
On Saturday, the Foresters needed four to knock off Earlham College 28-30, 30-19, 30-17, 30-22. Smelser put down 17 kills, had five blocks and 10 aces in the match. Cervenka had a team-high nine blocks, Schroeder added 49 assists, four blocks and nine digs and Stearns finished with a team-leading 30 digs.
HU wrapped up the tournament with a convincing 30-13, 30-12, 30-11 rout of Calumet College of St. Joseph. Courtney Berger, Natalie Villwock and Cervenka each had eight kills. Berger added five blocks and two aces. Schroeder had 29 assists and Chelsey Melvin had 16 digs to lead the Foresters.
"In years past, we would have been happy leaving a tournament with a 3-1 record," said Coach Schroeder. "But this year, with this talent, I was a little disappointed."
