Competing in the 2009 National Soccer Festival hosted by IPFW, the Foresters recorded their second win of the season in as many attempts. The HU men's soccer team downed Cincinnati Christian University by a score of 2-1.
Huntington's first score came eleven minutes into the contest when Adam McLaughlin found the back of the net on a pass from Brad Kunze. Cincinnati Christian countered with a goal of their own twelve minutes into the second half to knot the score 1-1. The Foresters had numerous scoring opportunities and finally connected when Steven McKay slipped the goalie on a pass from Taylor Zeman for the game-winner with just under eight minutes left in the contest.
The Foresters out-shot the Eagles 21-4. "I was pleased with our team's maturity tonight," said Coach Russ Lawson. "We dominated the game from start to finish and despite not capitalizing on our many scoring opportunities, the guys stuck together. They stayed in attack mode and played with a sense of urgency to get the win."
With the victory, HU moves to 2-0 on the season.
