CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville University snapped the Foresters’ twelve-game win streak Saturday afternoon by sweeping Huntington, 8-0, 5-1, in non-conference softball action at Lady Jacket Field.

Cedarville pitcher Cecelia DeBartolo completely shut down the Foresters’ offense by limiting the visitors to two hits while fanning seven batters for the game. Her teammates provided more than enough firepower at the plate to back-up her stellar performance on the hill.

The Yellow Jackets hammered out 13 hits for eight runs to cut the game an inning short thanks to the eight-run mercy rule.

Peyton Klinkhamer and Allison Greene recorded HU’s only hits of the game while Marcie McDougle (4-2) was tagged with the loss. She gave up six runs, four earned, on six hits and no walks while striking out six in four innings of work.

The nightcap started off well for HU as Katie Bowers blasted one over the center field fence in the top of the first but their celebration was cut short as the Yellow Jackets answered with two runs in their half of the frame to steal a 2-1 lead. They went on to plate two more runs in the third and added an insurance run in the fifth to claim the series sweep.

Despite out-hitting Cedarville 7-5, the Foresters failed to produce any runs after Bowers’ solo shot while the Yellow Jackets made the most of their scoring opportunities and took advantage of three Forester errors to cruise to the 5-1 win.

Klinkhamer and Lindsay Shellabarger led Huntington offensively with two hits apiece.

Molly Long took the loss on the mound by surrendering five runs, only one earned, on five hits and no walks while fanning seven. With this loss, she drops to 8-2 on the season.

The Foresters (14-6) host Indiana Wesleyan University Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
