Kaufman, harrier duo earn Athlete of the Week honors

Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington University Athletics Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of August 29 - September 4, 2005. Soccer sophomore Sarah Kaufman and a pair of cross country harriers, junior Cody Hannie and freshman Nick Johnson, earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.

Sarah Kaufman, a sophomore from Ada, Mich. (Forest Hills Central High School), picked up where she left off last season as the team’s leading playmaker. Kaufman scored three goals and dished out three assists in the Foresters’ two matches this week. In Thursday’s match at Manchester College, she scored her first goal of the season in the second half to draw Huntington even with the Spartans at 1-1. On Saturday, Kaufman added two goals and three assists in the Foresters’ 6-0 win over Franklin College. The Foresters are now 1-1 on the season and next host Trinity Christian College on Saturday, September 10 at 12:00 p.m.


Cody Hannie Nick Johnson
Cody Hannie, an English education major from Ft. Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), and Nick Johnson, an exercise science major from Huntington, Ind. (Huntington North High School), helped lead the NAIA 25th-ranked Foresters to the team title at the Goshen College Hokum Karem on Saturday. They took top honors in the two-man relay with a combined time of 54:42. The Foresters will next compete in the Aquinas College Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Friday, September 9 at 5:00 p.m.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past eight years, Huntington has produced 52 NAIA All-America honors and 102 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
