FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The first shot of the game proved to be the game-winner as the University of Saint Francis scored within the first four minutes of play and then clung to their 1-0 lead for the win over the HU women’s soccer team Wednesday night Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.
With this loss, the Foresters (5-11) drop to 4-4 in conference play and into fifth place in the standings along with Indiana Wesleyan. The regular season wraps up on Saturday when HU hosts Bethel College at 2:00 p.m. With a win over the Pilots, Huntington has an opportunity to finish 4th, 5th or 6th in the standings based on the outcome of the USF/IWU match.
Katelyn Strout, currently ranked ninth in the nation in game winning goals, wasted little time posting her fourth game-winner as she found back netting by the 3:23 mark.
It was all the Cougars needed as the rest of the night was an evenly matched scoreless affair with defense dominating play. USF finished with seven shots, three on goal, while the Foresters managed four shots on the night, two of which were on frame.
Caitlin Adams posted two saves and took the loss in goal.
