HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Huntington University junior Gretchen Spahr and sophomore Tyler Herber swept the conference cross country awards this week as both were named the Crossroads League Runner of the Week for the week of October 21-27, 2013, based on their performance at the Wilmington College Fall Invitational.
For Spahr, it marks her second conference ROW award this year. The Huntington native clocked a 19:04, her best 5K time of the season, on Friday to place 17th out of 398 runners. As a team, the 27th-ranked Foresters finished 7th out 34 schools. Spahr and company finished ahead of all other NAIA schools as well as a handful of its NCAA Division I competitors.
This week’s honor is a first for Herber (Fremont, Ind., Fremont H.S.) who also ran a season-best on Friday. He posted an 8K time of 26:00 to finish 22nd out of 416 runners to help guide HU to a 14th place finish out of 36 teams.
The Foresters are back in action on Saturday when they compete in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College.
