FOR RELEASE
2007-01-10
The NAIA Division II top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats proved to be too much for the Foresters (10-6, 2-4) to handle as they routed HU 80-54 to stay undefeated on the season at 20-0.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively as the Foresters led 4-2 five minutes into the game. The Wildcats took their first lead of the game on a trey from Liz Howerth a minute later and then slowly began to pull away from HU. A Stephanie Culp layup off a Howerth steal capped a 10-2 run to give IWU an 11-point edge at 17-6 with 10:29 to go in the half. Another 8-1 spurt later in the half gave the Wildcats a 16-point advantage and they finished the period up 30-17.

Early in the second half, HU looked as if they were ready to battle IWU. The Foresters scored the first seven points of the half to immediately cut the Wildcats lead to six at 30-24, but the rally was short-lived. IWU regained the momentum with an 11-2 run to take a 41-26 lead at the 16:08 mark and they never looked back. The Wildcats owned its largest advantage at 74-46 before reaching the final 26-point margin of defeat.

The Foresters had no answer for Indiana Wesleyan's Sarah McGill who took game-high honors with 34 points. Howerth added 22 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Amy Berry led HU with 15 and Lauren Davenport finished with 12.

Both teams shot the ball well with the Foresters hitting 23 of 46 for 50% while the Wildcats went 28-55 for 51% including 8-16 from behind the arc. IWU also was a perfect 16-16 from the line.
