The Huntington University golf team made its debut in the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships by shooting a 322, putting the squad in 26th place after one round of play. The Foresters began second round play at 8:30 this morning with hopes of improving on their scores and moving up in the team standings. Results and updated standings will be available on the NAIA website later today.
On day one, Ryan Bonner paced HU with a five-over-par 76. Jordan Dawes had an 80. Justin Imel and Spencer Batt both shot an 83 and Cory Powell finished with an 85.
Oklahoma Christian, the top-ranked team entering the National Championship, shot a seven-over-par 291 to grab an early lead after the first round. The Eagles have a two-shot lead over Malone University (Ohio).
Oklahoma Christian teammates Fernando Gonzales and Axel Ochoa, along with Malone's Ben Smith, have a share of the individual lead at two-under-par 69. The three are the only players to break par on the tournament's first day.
