Trailing Saint Francis by two strokes after the first round of play, the Forester golf team turned in an impressive 293 on day two of the Taylor University Invitational to capture the title with a 611 at Purdue's Kampen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
Cory Powell, who turned in an impressive round of 69 on day two, finished first overall with a 149 for the tournament. Jordan Dawes was right behind him with a 151 (75, 76). Mickey Belt turned in a 154 (80, 74). Matt Wilson shot a 157 (83, 74) and Josh Teulker finished with a 165 (83, 82). Powell and Dawes were named to the All-Tournament team.
Wheaton finished second behind the Foresters with a 615 followed by Saint Francis (633), Taylor (635), Indiana Tech (640), Cedarville (641), Bethel (651) and Wisconsin Lutheran (688).
"It was a great second day effort from every one of our players," said Coach Mark Green. "To shoot a score of 293 (5 over par) on Purdue's Kampen course is quite an accomplishment! It is a very difficult course, and the wind on Monday made it even more difficult. Cory Powell played excellent on Tuesday."
