Shawn Knafel, a three-sport athlete from Wawasee High School, has signed a Letter of Intent to continue both her basketball and track careers at Huntington University this fall.
As a senior this past winter, the 6-2 post helped lead the Warriors to a 22-4 season, a Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) title and a State Runner-up finish on the basketball court. During her final campaign, Knafel was a First Team All-NLC selection and the Warriors’ Defensive Player of the Year. She shot 54% from the field and averaged 6 points and 5 rebounds per game.
“We are excited to have Shawn join our program”, said Huntington University basketball coach, Lori Culler. “She will add size to our roster and intensity to our defense. She runs the floor well and has a tremendous work ethic, which will help her make a quick transition to the college game.”
On the track, Knafel is a hurdler and sprinter for Wawasee. As a junior, she earned All-Conference honors in the 400 and she currently holds the school record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.8.
“We are also very excited to have Shawn and the talents she brings in the hurdle events,” said track coach, Tom King. “She will fit in well with the great group of student-athletes at Huntington.”
