Studio Art

Home / Art + Design / Programs / Studio Art

The studio art program is geared toward students with a high level of competence and motivation that are serious about becoming professional artists or pursuing graduate-level study. Students in the studio art program study drawing, design, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and photography while giving and receiving constructive criticism and participating in dynamic discussions. Students complete 12 hours of advanced studio in their area of specialization in preparation for their senior exhibit and portfolio development.

Studio art students develop a balance of technical and conceptual skills that will enable the development of creative expression through a medium, while mastering their own style, ultimately progressing toward a confidence and maturity in their creative expression.

This degree is designed for students wishing to maximize their studio immersion, particularly for those considering the pursuit of a graduate degree (MFA). While this degree retains much of the liberal arts breadth of a bachelor of arts degree, its focus is on studio practice and theory, toward a refined and professional art form.
