Melodie “Mel” Winans joined the Huntington University team as the Recruitment Coordinator for Graduate and Professional Programs in 2015. She is responsible for assisting adults through their enrollment processes, managing enrollment data and aiding in recruitment.
Before coming to HU, Winans worked as a business and computer teacher at various high schools throughout the United States. She graduated from HU with a BA in business administration in 1984, and she received her second degree from HU, in business education, in 1989.
Winan’s favorite memory from her time at HU was being a member of the 1984 national championship (NCCAA) women’s basketball team.
Winans resides in Angola, Indiana, with her husband, Charley. She has three children, one son-in-law and a granddaughter. In her free time, Winans enjoys walking, gardening, reading, traveling, crocheting, knitting, creating jewelry and cleaning.
Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
Melodie “Mel” Winans returns to her alma mater to serve as an assistant under former Forester teammate and current head coach Lori Culler. Winans’ responsibilities include assisting with practices, recruiting and providing spiritual guidance and support to players on and off the court.
In addition to assisting the program for a year shortly after graduating from Huntington, Winans brings an additional seven years of coaching experience to the position with her most notable experience coming as the head volleyball coach at Prairie Heights High School where she was named the NECC Coach of the Year twice.
During her time as a Forester, Winans played basketball and volleyball. She was a member of the 1984 basketball squad that won the school’s first ever NCCAA National Championship. She along with her teammates were recently inducted into HU’s Hall of Fame.
Winans graduated from Huntington in 1984 with a BS in Business Administration. She returned several years later to earn a degree in Business Education. She currently serves as the Recruitment Coordinator for HU’s Graduate/Professional Programs. She and her husband Charley have three children Charleann, Paige and Garrit and one grandchild Leah.
