Since 2002, Pete Schownir has served in the Advancement Office as a Major Gifts Officer. From 2006-2012, he was also Director of Community Relations and became Director of Gift Planning in 2012. In addition, Schownir coached the HU men’s golf team from 2001-2006 and was the first coach of the women’s team from 2014-2017. Schownir enjoys working in a place where everyone has a common goal — to prepare young people to impact the world for Christ.
Before coming to HU, Schownir worked in the publishing industry for 21 years in both Winter Haven, Florida, and Huntington, Indiana. Schownir enjoys volunteering in the greater Huntington community. He was a board member and president of United Way of Huntington County, Huntington Optimist Club, and gives his time to other non-profit organizations. Schownir also tries to improve on his own golf game. He has competed in several Indiana Open and Amateur Championships, and has been a multiple time winner of the Huntington County Amateur and Senior Amateur tournaments. His long-range goals include qualifying for a national Senior Open or Amateur Championship.
Since age 10, Schownir has been die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. His wife, Susan, is an elementary school teacher and a 2009 graduate of HU’s Master of Education program. They have two sons, Matt (’09), and David, plus one grandson and a granddaughter.
