HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The HU volleyball team ran up against one of the best teams in the nation in No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan University Wednesday night to suffer a 3-0 loss to the Wildcats at Platt Arena.

For IWU, it was their sixth sweep of the season as they improve to 10-3 overall, 4-1 in league play, while Huntington drops to 8-7 overall, 3-2 in conference action.

The Wildcats were clicking on all cylinders as they nearly doubled up their hosts in kills, 42-22, while hitting .211 as a team behind Kelly Miller’s 11 kills. Wesleyan also out-blocked Shondell’s crew 8-5 - a stat the Foresters aren’t accustomed to being on the short end of.

“We ran into a very talented team that played their best match of the season,” said Coach Shondell. “We had a hard time shutting anything down and were never able to get anything going offensively.”

Josie Beaver finished with seven kills to lead HU offensively while Lauren Cresse and Danielle Gurwell chipped in four kills apiece. Breanna Levings collected 11 assists.

Beaver also paced the Foresters defensively with two blocks. Kate Cobb posted a team-best 17 digs.

“The best part of our league is the short turnaround after nights like this,” said Shondell. “All we can do now is get ready for Grace.”

Huntington heads to Grace on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Lancers.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 38 NAIA All-America honors and 274 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. U.S. News & World Report ranks Huntington among the best colleges in the Midwest.
