MARION, Ind. - In quarterfinal action of the Crossroads League men’s tennis tournament, the 3rd-seeded Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan University knocked out the 6th-seeded Foresters 7-2 Tuesday afternoon at Sutter Tennis Center.

Today’s contest was a rematch of the last regular season match just five days earlier where IWU posted an 8-1 win. The win marks the Wildcats eighth consecutive victory for an overall record of 8-2 while the Foresters drop to 4-9.

Ignacio Poncio played a part in both Forester wins. He and Joseph Straznicky teamed up at No. 1 doubles to log their team’s first win with an 8-4 decision over Leonard Mathews and Brandon Dubuque. Poncio went on to slip past Gavin White, 7-5, 7-5, at #2 singles to account for HU’s second win.

While today’s loss wraps up Huntington’s fall season, Coach Eckert is excited about the future of his young team. “Another year under our belt and things would be significantly different - the close points would be going our way.  In many matches this fall, we had leads but couldn't hold out.  The experience will be critical for us to continue to develop and grow, with several years left for a majority of our players.”
