Archeologist to present lecture on ancient Philistine city

HUNTINGTON, Ind. The Center for Non-Western Studies would like to welcome Dr. Michael Press for a special lecture on Feb. 19.

Press, an archaeologist specializing in ancient Israel, will give a brown bag lunch presentation on archaeological excavations in the ancient Philistine city of Ashkelon at noon in Banquet Room C of the Habecker Dining Commons. The talk is open to the public.

Press, an affiliate of the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies at the University of Arkansas, has been involved with excavations of Ashkelon since 1996 and recently published his Harvard dissertation, "Ashkelon 4: The Iron Age Figurines of Ashkelon and Philistia."

Before giving the lunch presentation, Press will also give a guest presentation in Dr. Mark Fairchild's course on biblical archaeology. There, he will lecture on the subject of Ashkelon figurines and Philistine religion.
