HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Huntington University junior Abby Atkins earned one of state’s most prestigious bowling awards by being named the Indiana Girls’ Youth Bowler of the Year  by the Indiana State USBC Youth Association.

Atkins is currently the president of the Indiana State USBC Youth Association. In addition to serving the Indiana bowling community, the Columbia City native has also experienced plenty of success in her sport.

For the Eagles, Atkins competed in the Indiana High School Bowling State Finals as a senior and was also a member of the Indiana All-Stars several times over the course of her prep career. As a Forester, she has helped guide her team to the 2015 NAIA National Tournament as well as two trips to USBC Intercollegiate Sectionals.

“Abby is a true leader here at HU and in the Indiana bowling community,” said HU coach Mike Shockey. “She is a great example of what a student-athlete should strive to be. Abby is excellent in the classroom, works hard on the lanes, and serves in the community.

“She is a real leader here at HU and in the Indiana Bowling community. I can’t think of a more deserving person to be named youth bowler of the year.”
