HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University senior Brad Buzzard and sophomore Miguel de Sousa swept the conference men’s soccer awards as both were named Crossroads League Player of the Week based on their performances last week.

Buzzard earned this week’s Defensive Player of the Week honors for his outstanding play in goal. The Huntington native (Huntington North HS) was credited with two shutouts last week which included a 1-0 win over No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan to headline a solid HU defensive crew. As a unit, the Foresters gave up just nine shots, only four of which were on frame, in their two wins.

Sousa was equally impressive offensively and for his efforts was named this week’s Offensive Player of the Week. The Portugal native assisted three of HU’s four goals scored last week. In Huntington’s 3-0 win over Ohio Christian on Wednesday, he dished out assists to Isaac Wust and Bradey Gerke and then he found Hayden Suter midway through the second half at IWU on Saturday night for what proved to be the game-winner.

The Foresters (3-5-1) host the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 38 NAIA All-America honors and 254 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
