FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Junior Cale Carr earned medalist honors over the weekend at the University of Saint Francis Fall Invitational to pace the Forester men’s golf team to a fourth place finish out of seven teams. The Lone Star native posted a 75 on Friday before firing an even par 72 on Saturday to finish with a three-over-par 147.

Luis Estaban also had a strong showing to finish 9th out of 43 golfers with a 154 (80, 74). Andrew Weisheit carded a 171 (92, 79) for 33rd place. Zak Cummings posted a 173 (87-86) for a 35th place finish. Other scores for HU included Chandler Rang (81-97—178) and Nick Whitney (93-97—190).

“This was a good tournament overall for us. There were a lot of positives this weekend,” said Coach Sholund. “The team is very proud that Cale was able to bring an individual win back for the program. He had put himself in position a few times before, this time he was able to close it out. He is a great player and this experience will serve him well as the season progresses.

“As a team we are getting close but we must mature in our discipline and the choices we make on the course and not letting holes get away from us. As we do this, we will find ourselves in increasingly more competitive positions, which this team is certainly talented enough to do.”

Saint Francis topped the field with a 600 followed by IWU (617), Mount Vernon (629), HU (634), Olivet Nazarene (320), Cleary (669) and Bethel (675). The invitational was played at Cherry Hill and Autumn Ridge in Fort Wayne, Ind.
