HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Huntington University women’s basketball has inked its first recruit for 2018-19 with the signing of Penn High School standout Sara Doi.

With her senior season yet to come, the 5-5 point guard’s resume already includes a plethora of awards and accomplishments. Most notable, the Kingsmen’s playmaker guided her team to an IHSAA State Championship in 2016. During her time in black and gold, Penn has accumulated a 70-12 record which includes 29 wins against just three losses in conference play.

Last season Doi did a little bit of everything for her team by averaging 12.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.1 steals and for her efforts was named All-State Honorable Mention and First Team NIC. She also recorded the program’s first ever triple double last season against Washington High School by posting 24 points, 16 rebounds and ten assists.

The Granger native has also already made her way into the record books by ranking 12th in scoring (491), 10th in rebounds (237), 7th in assists (188) and 11th in steals (112).

“We are ecstatic that Sara has chosen to continue her academic and athletic careers at HU.  There are several attributes of Sara’s game that immediately catch your eye, her work ethic, her ball handling, and her long range shooting to name a few,” said Coach Culler. “You can never have too many players on your roster with those qualities.

“As a point guard, Sara sees the floor well and works hard to get her teammates involved on the offensive end. She’s the complete package. Aside from all that she can do on the floor, Sara is a quality individual that any coach would love to have. I expect her to not only make an impact on our program, but on our campus as well.”
