Playing in front of a home crowd Saturday afternoon, the Foresters were in a must-win situation in order to secure a spot in postseason play. HU found its answer by way of Essig, a junior midfielder from Monroe, Ohio (Monroe High School).
Essig accounted for all of HU's scoring by logging a pair of goals to spur HU on to a 2-0 win over the University of Saint Francis. With this win, HU wraps up the 8th spot in league play and has the chance to knock-off top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday in first round action of the conference tournament.
To date, he has tallied ten points this season by scoring four goals and assisting two others.
The Foresters (8-8-2, 3-6) will look to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Wildcats back on September 29.
