EXCEL program offers two new Gateway courses

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington University's EXCEL Program for Adults announces two Gateway courses at its new Columbia City location. U.S. History II, 1945 to present will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. February 1 through March 8, 2006. A course titled The Life of Christ will meet on Thursday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. March 23 through April 20.
Gateway courses are conducted in an accelerated format. EXCEL students can earn core and/or elective credit to meet graduation requirements. Members of the community may also enroll on a credit or non-credit basis for furthering lifelong learning or simply for enjoyment.
Mrs. Sarah Harvey, the University's registrar, will instruct U.S. History II, 1945 to present. The course offers a survey of modern United States history from 1945 to the very recent past. It examines the major events that shape contemporary American social, political, and cultural life, and explores the interpretive problems that historians face in understanding these events. It also encourages students to examine the problems of American social, political, and cultural life from a Christian perspective.
Dr. Stan Buck will teach The Life of Christ. The course concentrates on the historical events during the various stages in the life of Jesus as found in the four Gospels with the intent to give the theological significance to Jesus, the Christ. Buck will acquaint the student with the political, social, cultural, religious, and geographical background of the world into which Jesus was born and provide the chronological account and ministry activities of the life of Christ. The course provides the student with a convenient starting point for an in-depth reflective understanding of the life of Christ presented in the Gospels.
