ADA, Mich. - The Huntington men’s golf team had a strong showing over fall break at the Egypt Valley Intercollegiate hosted by Taylor University by finishing third out of 12 teams, the Foresters’ highest finish of the season.

HU fired a 309 on Monday to head into Tuesday in third place and stayed in the spot after their final 18 holes by carding a 315 for a final score of 48-over-par 624.

Sophomore Luis Esteban turned in a seven-over-par 151 (75, 76) to pace his team and finish 6th out of 71 golfers. Cale Carr claimed 9th with a 154 (78, 76). Andrew Weisheit finished one stroke back at 155 (75, 80) for 11th. Zakry Cummings rounded out his team’s scoring with a 164 (81, 83) for 32nd place while Chandler Rang shot a 183 (97, 86).

“I am happy for the guys. They had a good weekend overall and this shows them that they can compete with the top teams at tournaments,” said Coach Sholund. “This is the mindset we are trying to create and this is an outcome that proves that. 

“We are excited to practice this week and work on some things that will help us continue the positive momentum heading into Whistling Straits on Monday and Tuesday.”

Taylor took home the title with a 598 followed by Mount Vernon (613), HU (624), Madonna (630), Spring Arbor (632), IUSB (633), Grand Rapids CC (634), Davenport (650), Roosevelt (653), Grace (672), Bethel (681) and Cornerstone (689).

HU wraps up its fall season by competing in the Whistling Straits Intercollegiate on October 23-24.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 38 NAIA All-America honors and 274 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
