FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The HU men’s golf team was a picture of consistency at their own Forester Spring Invitational at Brookwood Golf Club to finish second out of five teams. Coach Sholund’s crew fired a 300 on Thursday and followed up with a 298 on Friday to post a season-low 598.

Luis Esteban tied for medalist honors by posting a 142 (73, 69) over the two-day event. Cale Carr took eighth by carding a 148 (73, 75). Zak Cummings shot a 153 (76, 77) and rounding out the scoring was Chandler Rang (78-77—155) and Zach Borntreger (80-77—157). Otto Bjartmarz played as an individual and turned in a 161 (77, 84).

“We had a much better and more consistent event for this week,” said Sholund. “For the most part, we were able to avoid the big numbers.

“We gained some much needed confidence heading into our next event on Monday. I am really proud of our team and how they continue to compete for every shot.”

Saint Francis claimed the title with a 574 followed by HU (598), Mount Vernon (600), Notre Dame College (622) and St. Mary of the Woods (652).

HU hits the links again on Monday to compete in the Taylor University Ackerman-Allen Classic.
