HUNTINGTON, IN— After the first round of play, Huntington College leads the Mid-central Conference Men's Tennis Championships in Indianapolis.
In singles play Thursday, HC's Peter Magnusson defeated Matt Tumas of Taylor 6-2, 6-1. Shail Galada defeated Dave Banks of Bethel 6-0, 6-0. Hamish Dunn defeated Tyler Miller of Goshen 6-1, 6-2. Gordon Buchan defeated Mike Tietz of Bethel 6-0, 6-0. Dan Claghorn defeated Kevin Smith of Indiana Wesleyan 6-2, 6-2. Mike Baber received a bye in the first round.
In doubles, Magnusson and Dunn defeated Taylor's Tumas and Jon Noble 6-0, 6-1. Galada and Buchan defeated Bethel's Dan Erickson and Matt Terui 6-0, 6-0. Claghorn and Baber defeated Bethel's Tietz and Ralph Lantz by default.
Huntington is now in first place with eight points. Grace won five points in the first round. Goshen and Indiana Wesleyan each have four points; Marian and Taylor have three points each. Bethel has no points.
Play continues in Indianapolis through Saturday.
