BATH, Mich. – The HU women’s golf team took fourth at the Spring Arbor University Fall Classic on Monday. Playing at Eagle Eye Golf Club, Coach Schownir’s squad posted a 727 (266, 261) at the 36-hole one-day event.

Abby Poole finished in a tie for 10th out of 48 golfers by firing a 169 (86, 83) to pace the Foresters.

Betsy Schroeder registered a 181 (91, 90) to share a piece of 19th place. Leah Thompson and Rachel Blauert played within three strokes of each other to finish 27th and 33rd respectively. Thompson turned in a 187 (99, 88) while Blauert carded a 190 (90, 100). Rounding out the scoring was Alayna Steely with a 214 (112, 102) for 43rd place.

“The SAU Fall Classic was a preview tournament for the Crossroads League Tournament next May,” said Schownir. “We looked at these two rounds as getting familiar with the course and I thought we did a good job of that.

“Eagle Eye was a difficult course with tall rough and tricky routing on some holes. The fact that our second round was better than the first over a 10 ½ hour day showed our ability to adapt.”

Grace topped the field with a 657 followed by Indiana Wesleyan (676), Taylor (702), HU (727), IU Kokomo (731), Mount Vernon (737), Spring Arbor (738) and Siena Heights (788).
