HUNTINGTON, Ind. – In a make-up game called because of weather a few weeks earlier, the Huntington softball team scored twice in the first and two more times in the third to bolt out to a 4-0 advantage before settling for a 4-1 win over the University of Saint Francis Friday afternoon.

The win is HU’s second win over the Cougars as they move to 20-16-1 overall, 16-12 in league play while USF drops to 15-19 overall, 12-16 in the conference.

Audra Klopfenstein supplied most of HU’s offense on the day by tripling in Casey Lehman in the first and then touching home while teammate Camille Furrow, who had drawn the innings’ second walk, attempted to steal second.

Klopfenstein struck again in the third, this time by driving in Lehman with an RBI-double after Lehman had just done the same to knock in Natalie McGuire.

USF scored their lone run in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Abby Skura and Lizzie Meyer with Meyer picking up the RBI.

Lairen Miller pitched a dandy for the complete-game win. She gave up just four hits and a run while striking out five to improve to 12-8 on the year.

Coach Gower’s squad is back in action tomorrow to host Goshen College at 1:00 p.m.
