MARION, Ind. – The 15th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats lived up to their national ranking Saturday afternoon at Luckey Arena by blanking the Forester volleyball team 3-0, 25-14, 25-18, 25-21, to wrap up Huntington’s regular season play.

The loss drops HU to 13-18 overall, 7-11 in Crossroads action. The Foresters’ final regular season standing of 6th or 7th place rests on the outcome of the IWU/Goshen match slated for Wednesday. Opening day of the league tournament is slated for November 5.

The Wildcats remains unblemished at 17-0 in the conference, 30-2 overall. Today’s shutout over Huntington is IWU’s 19th of the season.

Despite the lopsided result, Coach Kyle Shondell had several positives to pull from the match. “We tried a lot of newer things and I was pleased with how our girls responded. We truthfully did a good job of defending their top attackers.

“Our offense struggled to get going, but when it did it was awfully good.”

Audrey Mallers paced a balanced Forester attack with ten kills and a .269 hitting percentage. Mallers was also active in the backcourt where she tracked down ten digs while teammate Kate Cobb finished with a team-high 13.

Josie Beaver and Paige Eakright chipped in seven kills each while Emily Hubby directed the offense with 20 assists.

“We need to continue improving and go into next weekend as strong as we've been all season,” said Shondell.
