HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University softball coach Doug Gower continues to add depth and talent to his 2016-17 roster with the signing of Hilltop High School standout Bailey Funkhouser.

The senior slugger wrapped up her career with a .426 batting average which included hitting .511 in her final campaign as a Cadet. She finished the season with 45 hits, 13 for extra bases, while scoring 50 runs and knocking in 27 more and for her efforts repeated as a First Team BBC honoree. She was also named First Team District 4 and All-Ohio Honorable Mention District 4 as a senior.

Other accomplishments accumulated over her prep career include pitching a perfect game as a sophomore while earning Second Team BBC accolades that same year. As a junior, Funkhouser was named her team’s defensive MVP and claimed All-District Honorable Mention honors for fieldling/pitching.

Funkhouser’s versatility and impact at HHS is well documented. In addition to leading her team in hitting last spring, she also boasted a perfect fielding percentage on the year having played multiple spots as a pitcher, outfielder and first baseman. She currently holds several single-season records including runs (50), stolen bases (32) and triples (9).
